Traditional Hand-Sewn Lampshades

OUR LAMPSHADES ARE DESIGNED AND MADE USING TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES.

Here at Laurel Grove Studio, we use traditional skills and techniques to make our hand sewn lampshades.

We are proud to say that our lampshades are all lined, using hand stitched pleats and balloon lining, a unique feature which gives our lampshades extra depth and detail creating wonderful colours and patterns.

Each piece is carefully thought out from beginning to end. Choosing the finest quality fabrics, trims and braids.

Using cotton India binding tape we tightly wrap around the frame and secure, we  use a template which is made for each frame, chalk and cut the fabric. The fabric is then machine sewn ready to be pinned and hand stitched to the frame.

The fabric and lining are hand sewn using a traditional sewing stitch.

Our 'Tiffany' lampshades are meticuously hand pleated and sewn around the top of the frame.

Each shade is then ready for its finishing touches, using fringes and braids sourced in the U.K

Single Seam Lampshades

Our Single Seam Lampshades are made using environmentally friendly Eco-board.

Eco-board is an environmentally friendly material made form 100% elemental chlorine free wood pulp, which is at least 30% recycled and totally recyclable. It is sourced from carefully managed and renewed forests.

Fire retardant is applied to both the board and fabric for safety and protection.

Our single seam lampshades are hand rolled, using lampshade frames in differing shapes and sizes. The seams are then tucked neatly under the frame. Shades are finished using a binding tape to hide the inner seam, giving the shade a professional finish.

Fabric placement will vary with each lampshade but we ensure that each design is aesthectically pleasing.
